Reviews
This is the best book of Edward Weston's photos from a technical point of view. The quality of the photos is excellent, better than anything else I've seen not only on other Weston's books but also other photography masters. The book has 110 photos, going from 1909 to 1948. Photos are printed in 600-line screen quadtone and tritone+2 colors. The reproductions are the same size of the originals.I compared the photos of this book with the recently published "Edward Weston 125 photographs". Lodima's photos look almost like 3D whilst the photos in the newer book are as flat, flat, flat. You will find in this book, besides photos of extraordinary printed quality ( but don't expect the resolution of 21st century photographs), good essays one of them by Dody Weston Thompson, who was Weston's last assistant. This book is actually out of print but you can still buy it from the publisher, Lodima, for one thousand dollars. You will also find a few copies on Amazon ( US, UK, Canada ).They printed only 2900 copies and this book is a real rarity with the advantage that is a rarity that you can still buy. Lucky the ones who bought this book for its original market price at the time of its release ten years ago.I got my copy from Beacon Hills last year. The packaging was excellent and it protected the book completely. The book was brand new, factory wrapped, in pristine condition ( the book was published in 2004) .It was the most expensive book that I've ever bought but, after seeing the book, I am happy with every single cent that I spend on this book.I avoid writing about packaging and shipping in a review simply because it is not the place for that kind of information. But considering how expensive this book is I opened an exception here.
